Storytelling 101…
So there I was just enjoying my morning cup of Joe when in comes the captain of the rig! He wants to know why I am using all the bandwidth at night? Of course I’m not going to tell him I’m uploading my daily vlog video when everyone is asleep! He’d probably take away my internet and I surely don’t want that to happen.
So, it is with regret I have to pause my uploads to YouTube at least for a few days so he will get off my back. Please bare with me. I have some great stuff coming out, but probably won’t be able to release just just one or two a week so I’m not on his radar anymore. I think he’s being a real dick about it because there is absolutely no one using the internet at night! Everyone is fucking asleep.
Anyway, I have a plan to which I will implement over the next few days that will allow me to upload the videos. I plan on taking my IP address and changing it to another number while the upload takes place and then as soon as I get up in the morning, I will change my IP address back to the one he knows is mine. That way he will be chasing a ghost and I will still be able to upload videos. Only slower and less over the coming weeks until I’m off this stinking pig of a rig. Actually its a really nice rig and I’ve loved working on it over the last year and a half. But we are coming to an end and some people are changing from the nice people they used to be to assholes.
So why the title? The captain came in this morning and immediately jumped on my computer thinking I’m doing something illegal or something. He searched around for about 10 minutes and couldn’t find anything. As he was searching around, I saw him starting to delete programs and stuff off my computer. Well, needless to say, I freaked the fuck out and went off on the captain for deleting stuff on my computer without informing the IT department and the ET’s onboard. Well, as soon as I started mentioning that shit, he got up and just left the office. Just like that… He leaves like it’s no big deal what he just did.
He thinks he’s entitled to do that because he is the captain of this vessel. Well, we have policy and procedures we absolutely must follow. He broke two that I am aware of just by doing his dirty deed of removing stuff off a company computer without proper authority. As soon as he left, I called the ET’s and they immediately came to my aid and checked over my computer. Fortunately nothing was removed permanently and man, were the ET’s pissed off he had the nerve to come in and try and do their job for them. They also told me that I am not doing anything illegal.
In the process of all this, the ET’s run a new virus program and found 6 potential threats on the computer. They cleaned them off and all is well now. So, the ET went to the captains office and informed him not to be doing his job and that it was against policy for anyone from the rig who is not a designated ET could remove software from the company computers. He then ran a virus check on the captains computer and you’ll never guess how many viruses they found on his computer? 265 malware and other nasty little critters! That’s a hell of a lot more than mine! Good job Captain!
